TMI - To Much Information

This day is off to an interesting start. It is only 7:00 a.m. and my mind has been filled with information that I can ponder for the rest of the day. Will Richard started it with his posting on TMI (Too Much Information). Will writes that he loves research, reading and collecting information but is is getting to be to much. He writes:

So here's my issue. I'm peddling about as fast as I can to keep up with all of it. I've got my own blog where I hold forth on what I think is the most important stuff. I've got a Furl and a del.icio.us account where I store links and pages. I've got about a half dozen Webnotes where I dump random thoughts and snippets. I've got a Bloglines account where I store ideas for future writing. And the list goes on.

And it's not working.

He makes the case that he needs a one space too store and sort this information so he can use it. Take some time to read his post. I think you'll find it interesting. I found it very interesting. This week has been the first week in a long time that I could answer all of my e-mail messages within 24 hours. (Not counting vacations away from my computer.) So maybe I do have too much information. I wonder though if it is too much information or the speed at which we acquire the information. It comes so quick we don't have time to really absorb what we are reading.

When I finished reading Will's post, I jumped over to Alan November's blog to read his latest post. I'd link you to his post, but it has been removed at this point. Odd?  It may return. I hope it does. You can however read Tom Hoffman's reaction to Alan's post. Alan had made a case about the " the importance of pedagogy." He writes that without a change in pedagogy technology will not improve education. I couldn't agree more.

My mind needs more time to think about everything I've read today. So I think I'll check my e-mail, drink my coffee and do a lot of thinking.

Jim
